Lumumba first came to prominence after attending the 1958 All African People’s Conference in Accra, Ghana. The West African country gained independence in 1957. “It had been ‘a political and personal epiphany,’ ” noted Susan Williams in her 2021 book, “White Malice: The CIA and the Covert Recolonization of Africa.”
Lumumba’s transformation was the result of his exposure to the vision of Pan-Africanist leaders, Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah, who became a close confident and mentor. Dr. Frantz Fanon, representing Algeria, who led a delegation of the National Liberation Front (FLN) which at the time was “fighting a bitter war for freedom in Algeria against its French colonizers,” also influenced Lumumba. Fanon introduced the conference to the idea of armed struggle, which it adopted

Neely Fuller, Jr., the writer/author of these books, like millions of others, have been a long-time Victim of and Servant to Racism (White Supremacy) in all areas of activity. My experiences, observations, and/or studies have led me to believe the following:Racism has done more to promote non-justice than any other socio-material system known to have been produced or supported by the people of the known universe.
No major problem that exists between the people of the known universe can be eliminated, until Racism is eliminated.
“And like Neely Fuller said, ‘The only people that can stop racism, White supremacy are White people.’ And they’re unwilling to do that. They really aren’t, they don’t want to climb up that mountain,” to even acknowledge, let alone confront American racism.

"The African Tale" is a 1963 Soviet animated short film directed by Leonid Aristov and Igor Nikolaev, produced by Soyuzmultfilm. Adapted from a fable by Jomo Kenyatta, the first Prime Minister and President of Kenya, the film serves as an allegory of anti-colonialism. he narrative portrays a black man, depicted with humanity and dignity, confronting various animals symbolizing colonial powers encroaching upon African lands. Through its expressive animation and symbolic storytelling, the cartoon critiques imperialism and underscores the resilience of indigenous people in their struggle for liberation.Notably, the film's portrayal of its African protagonist was progressive for its time, especially considering the racial caricatures prevalent in Western media during the same era. This compassionate depiction highlights the filmmakers' intent to humanize and honor the African experience.
On April 16, 2003, Luther Vandross suffered a near-fatal stroke, and the world held its breath. Inside sources said he might never sing again. He was too weak to receive visitors, but cards and good wishes came from Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Anita Baker, Halle Berry, Patti LaBelle, Jesse Jackson, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler, Star Jones, Gladys Knight, and Dionne Warwick, among others. With a will to live matched only by the enormous strength and power of his heart, soul, and singing talent, Luther survived and is regaining his voice. This biography is a loving tribute to the man who has entertained millions.
At its peak, the Black Panther newspaper publication had the highest circulation of any paper in the country. Behind the paper’s powerful illustrations was Emory Douglas. This episode follows how Douglas created a visual language that uplifted the Black community’s image of itself amid the racist portrayals of mainstream media. The Black Panther Party and Douglas generated an indelible imagery that was both powerful and effective in spreading their message all around the world. In doing so, they created the visual imagery of protest in the United States.

New York City and the Nation of Islam were rocked just after dawn on Saturday April 11, 2020, when it was announced that Student Minister Abdul Hafeez Muhammad, 56, had succumbed to his battle with the coronavirus. This gentle giant of a man was Nation of Islam’s Min. Louis Farrakhan’s popular and beloved Eastern Regional Minister and Representative.Known as a “Man’s Man” and a “Brother’s Brother,” he was a man of the community, a mentor, a man of faith, an activist, a supporter of the oppressed and disenfranchised, and a practicing counselor to the people.“I mourn with all who knew and loved him,” said Min. Louis Farrakhan in a statement. The head of the Nation of Islam added, “Words are inadequate to express the pain, the shock, the turbulent thought processes that the passing of Brother Abdul Hafeez Muhammad has stirred in me, in my family, in his family and the members of Mosque No. 7 and in the Nation in general.”
"Abdul Hafeez Muhammad was a beautifal man. He would call me from time to time to give me the greetings and make sure I was on my square. SMH.To Allah we belong and to him we shall return." Charmalagne tha God

He was nominated for the same award in 1959 for the movie “The Defiant Ones.” His elegant performances in the film industry inspired and paved the way for later generations of Black actors. Mr. Poitier passed away January 6. He was 94 years old.His other stellar accomplishments in Hollywood and beyond include starring in such classics as “A Raisin in the Sun,” “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” “Porgy and Bess,” and “To Sir With Love.”
Min. Rahman Muhammad told The Final Call, he witnessed the strength, courage and conviction grow in the then teenaged Clay. “I started teaching him Islam every day and advising him on boxing. I went to training camp. I protected him and nursed him on Islam right up to his championship fight with Sonny Liston.”According to a clip from the recently released documentary, “The Trial of Muhammad Ali,” Min. Rahman Muhammad recalled how promoters were trying to keep the fighter from joining the Nation of Islam.“Cassius Clay was training for the Sonny Liston fight, for the heavyweight championship. I wanted him to be a registered Muslim. When you come into Islam, we write a letter saying we believe in the teachings, and we put our slave name in the letter. Those are the names the slave masters had when they owned our ancestors. So he wrote his letter, sent it off to Chicago. And then they sent back what we call ‘X.’ He became ‘Cassius X.’ ”
goKahanamoku, nicknamed "The Duke" and "The Big Kahuna," is considered the father of modern surfing. The Hawaiian won five Olympic medals as a swimmer, but he also showed off in the movie industry, politics, and business life.Duke had five brothers and three sisters. His father was a policeman, and his mother was a religious woman. In his first years, Duke impressed everyone with his swimming skills and rapidly started winning competitions to become the ultimate Hawaiian waterman.By the end of the 19th century, foreign missionaries had almost "erased" surfing - or the act of riding waves - from the Hawaiian Islands.Only a handful of locals would hit the Waikiki rollers for a few rides.

From surfer and writer Stuart Holmes Coleman, Eddie Would Go is the compelling story of Eddie Aikau's legendary life and legacy, a pipeline into the exhilarating world of surfing, and an important chronicle of the Hawaiian Renaissance and the emergence of modern Hawaii.
In the 1970s, a decade before bumper stickers and T-shirts bearing the phrase Eddie Would Go began popping up all over the Hawaiian islands and throughout the surfing world, Eddie Aikau was proving what it meant to be a "waterman." As a fearless and gifted surfer, he rode the biggest waves in the world; as the first and most famous Waimea Bay lifeguard on the North Shore, he saved hundreds of lives from its treacherous waters; and as a proud Hawaiian, he sacrificed his life to save the crew aboard the voyaging canoe Hokule'a.
The idea for Free Minds began with an unsolicited letter from a stranger. In 1996, Co-Founder Kelli Taylor was working as a journalist when she received a letter from Glen McGinnis, a young man on death row in Texas. At that time, Glen had been incarcerated for more than five years for a crime committed when he was 17 years old. In response to this contact, Kelli produced a television documentary about Glen and other juveniles on death row in America. After the program aired, she continued to correspond with Glen over the next four years and ultimately participated in his remarkable journey of personal and educational growth. Books sent to him in prison provided the perfect common ground where two individuals from very different backgrounds could meet and their lives could be positively transformed. While Glen’s formal education ended at the age of 11, reading and writing opened up a whole new world of knowledge and possibility to him during his incarceration. Glen’s execution in 2000 was a catalyst for action. In 2002, Kelli and colleague Tara Libert founded the Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop and committed themselves to sharing the life-changing power of reading, writing, and community building with teens at the DC Jail.Free Minds began as a bi-weekly program for youths charged as adults in the DC Jail. As members were released or transferred to federal prison after turning 18, Kelli and Executive Director, Tara Libert, recognized that maintaining contact throughout incarceration and beyond was vital to helping these youths positively redirect their lives. Over the years, Free Minds has expanded its services to include book clubs and writing workshops with youths and adults in the DC Jail, juvenile detention center, federal prison system, and reentry. For members returning to DC, Free Minds also runs a robust reentry support program, with job training and placement services, peer mentoring, advocacy and leadership development opportunities, and referrals to other services in the community that will help them to achieve their new educational and career goals.

Who Was Stokely Carmichael?
Stokely Carmichael rose to prominence as a member and later the chairman of the SNCC, working with Martin Luther King Jr. and other Southern leaders to stage protests. Carmichael later lost faith in the tactic of nonviolence, promoting "Black Power" and allying himself with the militant Black Panther Party. Renaming himself Kwame Ture, he spent most of his later years in Guinea, where he died in 1998.
Dad Rules was written with the intention of putting a smile on the face of any man who has navigated—or is about to navigate—the often curvy, pothole-filled road of fatherhood. Authors Michael Milligan and Tom Lynch know firsthand that the responsibility of being behind the wheel on such an unpredictable journey can often be an unsettling experience, especially with a two-year-old in the backseat happily smearing his ice cream over every inch of available window, and your wife next to you offering her always helpful advice to “Slow down,” “Turn left at the next . . . aw, you missed it,” and “I knew we should have brought a map.” So luckily for you, Michael and Tom are here to help.Let Dad Rules act as your personal GPS. With humor and insight, it will guide you from that life-altering moment when your wife says, “Honey, we need to talk,” all the way through pregnancy and birthing classes, the birthing process itself, infancy and toddlerhood, adolescence, and, finally, the day eighteen years later when your little bundle of joy leaves the nest (possibly to return shortly after, jobless and in desperate need of a haircut). So fasten your seatbelt, keep your eyes on the road, and enjoy the journey of being a dad. It will be quite a trip.

Over five hundred people, including fifty-five members of the New Black Panther party, attended the service to pay their respects; as they settled into their seats, there wasn't any crying or grief on their faces, only smiles and looks of deep thought. Anyone who entered the room could see that this was going to be a celebration honoring Khalid Abdul Muhammad's life. Singers and African drummers did their best to feed the positive spirit in the air.

Black Star LineGarvey established the first U.S. chapter of the Universal Negro Improvement Association in 1917 in Harlem, and began publishing the Negro World newspaper. Soon, his speaking engagements took on an angry tone, in which he questioned how the United States could call itself a democracy when across the country people of color were still oppressed.By 1919, he and his associates set up the shipping company Black Star Line under the auspices of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, which by then had grown to include more than four million members. Not long after the Black Star Line had purchased its first ship, the S.S. Yarmouth, and rechristened it the S.S. Frederick Douglass, the company began its “African Redemption” Liberia program, with the idea of establishing a nation on the west coast of Africa for Black Americans, for those who were born into slavery or who were the descendants of enslaved people.

Approximately 2,500 years ago, during the invasions of the Nile Valley region (Ancient Egypt), the bloodlines in charge of the highest echelons of Kemetic knowledge decided to migrate in order to preserve the integrity of the knowledge itself. They used the Sahara Desert as a line of defense, since pursuit over the harsh landscape was difficult. Over centuries, these bloodlines migrated across the territories known today as Sudan, Chad, and Niger, and eventually settled around the buckle of the Niger River and throughout West Africa

Before his death at age 27; before the heroin addiction, the money, the fame, the gallery exhibits; before the friendship with Andy Warhol; before the Mudd Club and the New York’s downtown scene, Jean-Michel Basquiat was SAMO, a street artist. He was a graffiti writer only in the sense that he sprayed words on walls without permission. Because rather than “going all city” on subway cars and impressing graffiti writers, Basquiat was strictly interested in gaining the attention of the gallery-oriented artists of the new downtown scene south of Houston Street in Manhattan. The tag SAMO (“same old shit”) couldn’t achieve that alone, even with the copyright sign that always accompanied it. So Basquait started adding carefully printed aphorisms, poetic lines, and enigmatic thoughts.

In 1968, just two years after the Black Panther Party (BPP) was founded in Oakland, California, the Party’s headquarters mandated that all chapters inaugurate “serve the people” programs. Community service had become a central component of the BPP’s mission, and the group committed itself to organizing nearly two dozen social and educational programs to benefit Black communities across the nation, from free medical clinics to voter registration drives. In fact, by 1970, a People’s Free Medical Clinic was a requirement in every chapter.
